The Down East MTB series is gearing up for a 10JAN10 start at Camp Lejeune. Although changes to the trail have had to be made due to the ongoing Base building projects, we will make every effort to put on a great race. Local riders recently put in a lot of hard work to fix the damage to the trail, and they deserve a lot of thanks. The Base plans no additional changes to the course between now and the race.Greenville and Wilmington clubs are holding 2 races each as has been done before. The series website will be available through the ecvelo.org site, and Cape Fear will be the host club for the end of series awards.
“Down East Cyclists Family Fun Ride”
Saturday, October 10, 2009
Name: Down East Cyclists Family Fun Ride
Date: Saturday, October 10, 2009
Time: 9am to 11am
Meet at: Onslow County Tax Office parking lot on Court St.
This family bicycle event will be a guided ride on Jacksonville ’s beautiful Rails to Trails Greenway. The trail begins near the meeting location and continues on to the entrance to Camp LeJeune .
Riders may select one of two ride choices, either the entire route to the base and back (13 miles), or to Wooten Park and back (5 miles). The shorter ride will be good for less experienced riders or those with small children. There will be snacks and water for all riders at both turnaround locations. Also, at Wooten Park , the Jacksonville Police Department will offer bicycle registration and a bicycle safety demonstration.
All cyclists must wear a helmet and children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
There is no fee to participate in this ride but we are asking riders to each bring one non-perishable food item that will be donated to the Onslow Women’s Center.
There will be a rain date on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at 2pm .
If you plan to participate, please email an RSVP to bicyclists@embarqmail.com. Please indicate how many bicyclists and their ages in this email. You can also direct any questions to the email address.

I wonder what it means?!
Larger pictures are in the Gallery, so take a look and let us know what you think?
Many thanks to everyone who pitched in to make the spring century a great ride. Kim, Rachel, Kerry, Gregory, Dan, and Van really made things run smooth. Bagels from Steve, a SAG wagon from Rowdy, and help from so many others made the ride safe and fun. Although the date was different this year, I think that things went well. I will be investigating a change of course for the Fall century in the coming weeks, so stay tuned. On 31 May 2009 at the Golden Coral parking lot North of the main gate of Camp LeJeune on Hwy 24 at 8 a.m. DEC will kick off the spring century. The ride has a following SAG support to carry tires, tools, water, (riders?)etc. The ride proceeds as a group and has 4 rest stops along the 100 mile route. There is no cost, but donations to the club are always welcome to defray the cost of SAG support. No T-shirt is included, but some may be available from the club secretary for around 8-10 dollars. Non DEC members are welcome, and encouraged to join DEC for 15$/family/year. We look forward to seeing you there.
