Spring Century Ride

The Spring Century ride will be happening, as usual, on Memorial Day, May 31st, starting at 8am. The start location will be the parking lot of the Richlands Highschool and the route is a modified “Richlands Loop”. There is an option for a 100km cut off for those not seeking to ride the full 100 mile route.

SAG support and refreshments will be provided. All riders are welcome. The ride is free to all DEC members. A nominal donation of $5 is request from non-DEC riders to help defer our costs.

Mark’s Police Unity Ride

Mark Perrigo and companions left from Florida yesterday on their Police Unity Ride. They plan on passing through Jacksonville on their way up to D.C. next Thurdays the 6th sometime around mid-day. Greet them as they roll into town.

2010 MTB series closeout

The final two races in this year’s race series will be on 5/16 at the Piranha Pit, Cherry Point and 6/06 at the revised Blue Clay Trail in Wilmington.

The loss of the Brig trail forced DEC offer our race date in May to the club in Havelock.

Please consider attending these remaining races. They’re a good time and we need to support ALL efforts in the area to continue the riding and racing in Eastern Carolina.

Brig Trail Update

As you all know, there has been alot of construction on just about every portion of the Brig trail. There is a 4 lane roadway being built that bisects the trail in at least 3 key spots leaving no attractive options for reroutes. There’s also alot of seemingly haphazard destruction throughout the remaining sections of the trail which look as though they have been surveyed for more building.

There doesn’t appear to be any limit to the loss of trail. I, along with others, suspect it will be a total loss.

The Race Series Starts!

Next Sunday, the 7th is the first race of our local MTB race series, hosted by EC Velo at the Bicycle Post Trail, just outside of Greenville.
Registration starts at noon, most categories start racing at 2pm so there’s plenty of time to get in you best lap times and still make it home to watch that other sport on TV.

Great news! The winter MTB race series is back on track for the full six races. The dates and locations are as follow:
2/07    Bicycle Post Trail, Greenville
2/28 Piranha Pit, Cherry Point
3/21    Blue Clay Trail, Wilmington
4/18    Bicycle Post Trail, Greenville
5/16          Brig Trail, Jacksonville
6/06         Blue Clay Trail, Wilmington

Piranah Pit Trail Day

This weekend, Saturday at 0830am, there will be a work party to get a start on getting the Cherry Point mtb trail in shape to host one of the upcoming Winter Series races.
Tom Simmon, the defacto Trail Boss will be directing the work. Anyone interested and able to help out should meet at Shady Grove Pavilion ready to work, rain or shine. Jan 10 Brig MTB Race Cancelled!

The heavy rains over the past month have made trail conditions on the Brig Trail too poor to allow DEC to host the scheduled race on 1/10/10. The standing water and soupy conditions on key sections of the trail are not draining as we expected.

Unfortunately, similar situations exist on both the Wilmington and Greenville trails leaving no viable option to relocate the January race.

DEC officers are actively conferring with both local trail managers and club representatives from our neighboring sister clubs to determine how to best realign the remaining series schedule. Please, check back soon for updates.

We apologize for the last minute notice. Our best efforts to repair and/or reroute the race course in anticipation on the 1/10 race were finally exhausted this weekend and the decision had to be made.

Holiday Party

The DEC Holiday Party will occur this saturday, 12DEC09, at 7pm. Please bring a covered dish. The party will be held at the home of Jack and Kathy Kane, just around the corner from our weekly saturday ride. A gift game will be played, and the club will pay for this, so DO NOT BRING A GIFT.
